The two-day event was attended by 112 doctors from various institutions.
The first day of the Course consisted of lectures on the basic lens anatomy, physiology and pathology as well as surgical considerations and pearls on the pre-, intra- and post-operative stages of phacoemulsification. Challenging surgical cases being done at the SOJR Operating Room was shown via live feed to the audience at the Romeo B. Espiritu Auditorium with annotations from the surgeons. The cases include: Polar cataract (Dr. Reuben Aquino), Pseudoexfoliative Glaucoma with Cataract (Dr. Rainier Covar), Cataract in Non-dilating Pupil (Dr. Richard Kho), Milky Cataract (Dr. Mark San Juan), Total White Cataract (Dr. Romeo Dela Cruz) and Cataract in Secondary Angle Closure Glaucoma (Dr. Rainier Covar). The second day featured the Wet Lab session, wherein participants were able to hone their phacoemulsification skills on bovine eyes using the latest surgical equipment.
We would like to thank all our participants, sponsors and partners who contributed to the successful carrying out of the Course! The PGH DOVS, SOJR and ORAA look forward to seeing you all again in future such endeavors that advance the art and science of ophthalmology in our country.
