As their silver jubilee year winds up, Batch 92 of the UP College of Medicine has invited two more Department faculty members for this year's medical update-webinars!
In the November 22 webinar, Dr. Harvey S. Uy will review the signs and symptoms of Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO), and discuss diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for management. RVO is the third leading cause of retinal blindness and is a frequent cause of painless visual loss in middle‐aged and elderly individuals. Retinal vein occlusion happens when a blood clot blocks the vein, similar to what happens in a “stroke”. It is more likely to occur in people with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, or other health problems that affect blood flow. In her reaction, Dr. Elaine B. Alajar will talk about the cardiovascular risk factors for retinal vein occlusion and arteriolar emboli. In the November 24 webinar, Dr. Noel S. Carino will talk about the evaluation and management of conjunctivitis and other causes of red eye. Often called "pink eye," conjunctivitis is a common eye disease, especially in children. Some forms of conjunctivitis are highly contagious and can easily spread in schools and at home. While conjunctivitis is usually a minor eye infection, sometimes it can develop into a more serious problem. In her reaction, Dr. Anna Lisa Ong-Lim will talk about decreasing the spread of infection among school children. |
