The Sentro is happy to announce the successful set-up of several pieces of new equipment that have either allowed for new services, or, enhanced the conduct of existing operations. The Cornea and External Disease Service can now offer workup using new Oculus machines - the Pentacam and Keratograph. Various anterior segment parameters - from topography, to pachymetry, and even ectasia studies - can now be evaluated to detail for a wide range of diseases, or, prior to surgery. Treatment of keratoconus via collagen crosslinking may also now be done with the acquisition of one machine. The Sentro is thus now able to offer a more thorough management protocol for diseases such as, but not limited to keratoconus and dry eye. Patients of the Cataract and Refractive Service meanwhile now avail of the Zeiss IOL Master for intraocular lens power calculation, as well as benefit from surgery under (2 units of) the Zeiss Lumera surgical microscope system. Residents and fellows doing various surgeries, including retina cases have benefited not only from the superior optics and visualization of the machine, but the system's ability to record cases for post-operative analysis. A Keeler Cryotherapy Machine is also up and running. More ideal management for a whole range of diseases - trauma, ocular malignancies, among others - can now be incorporated into in-house surgeries. All these acquisitions came through the persistence and dedication of members of the previous administration team of the Hospital and Sentro, with Dr. Raul Cruz at the helm in the SOJR, and Dr. Jose Gonzales at the PGH. Funded by the General Appropriations of the national government, it represents recognition of health as a priority of the nation and people; it is a welcome demonstration of the health sector benefiting and growing vis-a-vis any and all incremental gains and successes in recent times. PGH-DOVS/SOJR services are offered to the general public; it is a component of the National University Hospital. Where diagnostics and therapy are reimbursable by Philhealth, benefits may be fully applied.
