With the guidance of cataract service chief Dr. Richard Kho, ten (10) surgeries were completed by DOVS residents and fellows. More recent and ever more precise pre- and intraoperative interventions were employed - specifically, pre-operative planning using Zeiss and Barrett Toric Calculators, with use of Callisto-Lumera computer-assisted surgical systems - to implant Zeiss Toric IOL's.
These interventions - which correct for astigmatism/fine errors of refraction that otherwise may subtract from optimal post-operative vision - represent further advances in the treatment of cataracts.
Other in-house equipment (both donated and purchased) were also used, all within the Sentro Operating Room Complex constructed with the aid of the Kingdom of Spain. Such activities and collaborations expedite the general public's access to better standards of care. The DOVS/SOJR is again honored and thankful for this opportunity to collaborate and serve - and in the process advance the art and science of the practice in our nation.
